With humble beginnings in 1884 in Denmark, a factory fire caused Jacob Mortensen to relocate his saddle making and upholstery shop to a new factory in town. Ultimately, his sons relocated to Canada in 1957 and reopened as Foothills Upholstery, later known as Interiors by Kai Mortensen, and continued to be a well-known and respected high-end furniture store.
Today, Lifeform is still a family owned and operated company, with 5 generations of experience. Core-flex Technology
This revolutionary technology was developed by Steve Pearse, who realized most of the back pain and discomfort experienced by the seated worker is caused by the inability of the body to move naturally and keep the postural muscles engaged. The ultimate solution is to re-engage postural support muscles while sitting by providing natural motion to the legs, pelvis, and core. When the core muscles are engaged through motion, they maintain the back in a healthier posture, and stimulate the rest of the physiology as well.
With Core-flex’s unique split seat design, the motion of the alternating sides stimulates natural movement. This “dynamic sitting” increases circulation in the largest muscles of the body, especially in those we sit on. Your body naturally wants to shift its weight every 30 seconds or so to allow the support muscles in your torso to alternate support duties constantly. Sitting with one leg slightly lower than the other off-weights the opposite ischia, or tail bone. The slight motion of lowering the other leg changes weight distribution, with no distraction. Most people find themselves doing this automatically throughout the day.
Therma-Guard™ Technology
Lifeform ThermaGuard™ (Temperature Regulating Technology) is a coating consisting of water based polymers and Phase Change Materials (PCM). This coating can be applied to foams or fabrics for the purpose of regulating temperature. There are no health and safety concerns using this product as it is water based and it does not impact flammability.
Initially, ThermaGuard™ will give you a cool feel as there has been little to no energy absorbed into the material. As you sit on the surface longer, the effect becomes more neutral as the material and body temperature continue to interact. As you change positions the microcells within the coating regenerate themselves, further contributing to the thermal regulation effect.
